It is only natural that actor Jyothika is selective about the films that she signs up for. At her age and after having done a slew of regular and commercial cinema she has the luxury to be choosy. And that is why we get to see her as a tough cop who fights for justice for the underprivileged lot. Naachiyar the film is named after her, as that is Jyothika’s name in the film. And as expected from a Bala film there are several dark and morbid moments which can get to you, but that said it is a decent plot with a well-knit sequence of events that keeps you hooked.
Young and poor lover couple, the girl is a house help and the boy is errand boy who is accused of raping his lover who happens to be pregnant. But is he the real rapist? Or is there more than meets the eye? Is he falsely accused to cover some other big and powerful names are what Naachiyar discovers? She is brutal, a straight shooter and gets down to business in no time. It is a delight to watch Jyothika as a tough and experienced cop and her play of emotions from being hard on the criminals to being compassionate with the lover couple is amazing.
Ivana and GV Prakash Kumar as the young lover couple have essayed their roles with aplomb. The final revenge screens are terrifying in true Bala style but they are so justified given that the nation is reeling from an overdose of rape.
All in all, it is a neat film with Jyothika at the helm of affairs, she is there in every screen grabbing your attention.
