What’s one healthy habit you adopted this year?

A positive habit that I developed during the pandemic that I am proud of is: The short videos on English idioms, words, and expressions that I self-made and posted on YouTube. This gave me tremendous joy. Having always been a doer than a talker, they very act of creating something tangible made me feel good about myself and helped to forget the deaths and depression around.

At various levels it boosted my confidence levels, beginning with,

  • I was challenging myself to try something new, as I was always more a writer never much interested in appearing before the camera
  • I was creating something of value that benefits others and was enthused by the encouraging acknowledgements from viewers
  • It kept me completely occupied with researching and preparing the concepts for every video
  • It taught me to recall long forgotten words and expand my vocabulary in many interesting ways
  • I learnt all the tips and tools involved in posting a branded video on YouTube and the knowledge I gained is phenomenal
  • It made me wear makeup again after months of going around and working in well-worn pyjamas (felt like a woman, after ages) from home

With 30 odd videos under my belt now, I am suffused with a sense of satisfaction and self-actualization. While the fact remains that the world is replete with abundant talent and creativity, it all begins and ends with you. And if there is one person we spend our entire lives with is – our own self. And if this self feels enriched and empowered is’nt that the ultimate liberation? That said, will be continuing my video making skills into 2021 and beyond as well.
