Hamaari Adhuri Kahani: An Emotional Romantic Drama with Love and Longing

Hello Friends,

If you truly believe in love – the type of love that binds a man and woman emotionally forever, type of love that brings them  together because they are meant to be, type of love that prevails despite all odds, type of love where two souls connect rather than two individuals and finally meet in death – then you can relate to HAK. Also if you have enjoyed, Pretty Woman (English love story), Salangai Oli (Tamil love story), Ek Duje Keliye (Hindi love story) and The Bridges of Madison County (English love story) then chances are that you will fall for this film. I truly enjoyed it and was quite overwhelmed by the beauty of Vidya Balan (Indian actor) and the chivalry of Emraan Hashmi (Indian actor).

Plot:

Vasudha Hari (Vidya Balan) is a florist with a large hotel group (presumably five star) whose super boss is Aarav Ruparel (Emraan Hashmi). She has a young son and a missing husband but sails through life bravely as a single mother and battles questions related to her husband. She meets her super boss in a situation where she attempts to save his life and this impresses him tremendously. Naturally he makes her an irresistible job offer to take a leading position in his Dubai hotel. After hesitating, she signs up for it as she wants to run away from the mystery shrouding her husband’s missing and only to give her son a secure future.

Aarav is once again is suitably impressed with her maternal instincts as he has had a similar single mother upbringing.  The rest is history as they say for from then on Vasudha and Aarav fall irrevocably in love with each other and there is the pain of married woman falling in love and unable to accept her feelings. Of course, there are a few loose ends but which I missed as was caught in the overall love that was throbbing through the film. But Vasudha’s past catches up with her as the husband returns to taunt and tease her and there is a series of incidents follow which culminate in the death of Aarav (unfortunately).

Costumes: As a corporate giant Aarav is dressed impeccably and looks completely dashing in his suits.  Vasudha as a working woman graces the film in simple cotton salwar suits looking pretty as ever. Only in a celebration scene we see her in gorgeous in a red saree and jhumkis looking simply marvelous.

Décor: Elegant interiors all throughout, specially the Dubai scenes are well etched. As the pain and longing related to the love is mostly against a desert backdrop, providing a complete contrast the fine feelings on display.

Acting: Aarav cries in several scenes when he aches for Vasudha, when his past brings back bitter memories and when the void that money can’t fill up. Vasudha as the woman torn between an empty marriage and the powerful love for Aarav she dazzles with her subtle acting.  One character that caught my eye is Aarav’s man Friday who sticks with his boss all the time, impresses really.
