Eden: Vegetarian Quality Food

By June 3, 2015July 15th, 2017No Comments

Hello Friends,

In Chennai the number of vegetarian restaurants is on the rise. Gone are those days when we just had to settle in for that neighbourhood idli and dosa joint.  While there is Cream Centre, Annalakshmi, Palimar, Sangeetha, Saravana Bhavan, Woodlands, Mathura, Matsya, NewYorker, Eden has always been that tried and tested place, simply because they have been around for a while and they care to maintain their standards.

Be it the Eden at Besant Nagar, or the Harrison’s one, it is that dependable place where you could walk in to find the – same variety, same quality, same décor, same staff (wonder how?!) and same service. While I have dined several times in the past few years I still find its charm and delicious taste intact. Not a change, their quality standards are impeccable and guess they must have gone in/going in for quality accreditations.

Known for their continental fare starting with (an indicative sample only):

  • Chef’s Baked Bowl (vegetables, white sauce and cheese)
  • Vegetable Shaslik (grilled vegetables, garlic and rice)
  • Mushroom & Cottage Cheese bake (mushrooms, cottage cheese and cheese sause)
  • Cottage Cheese & Pasta Bake (pasta, cottage cheese and cheese sause)
  • Vegetable Risotto (aromatice rice pilaf and vegetables)
  • Lasgane (pasta, vegetables and cottage cheese)
  • Spaghetti Supreme (spaghetti, cheese dumplings and tomato sause)

the list is a heady mix.

But just remember these dishes are a meal by itself and can be quite filling owing to the cheese concoctions. If you get to share it with your meal partner then maybe you could get to taste a few other dishes.

The best part about Eden is that they have a widespread menu to suit Tandoor as well as South Indian tastes. Offering a wide variety of super soft rotis (Indian Bread) subzis (north indian vegetables and gravy), they go all the way up to the mandatory masala dosais, puris, idlis and idiyappams (south indian food delicacies) served with a piping hot stew (south indian vegetables and gravy).

My recent visit to Eden included sampling soups, cutlets and rotis and they were nothing short of mouth wateringly divine! In the Harrisons building that Eden resides, there are other restaurants also, such as Dynasty (Chinese), Meenam (North Indian Veg and Non Veg) and a bar – Hudson Lounge.
