I am not sure if it is something that I have missed or that he does not open up much, but the Superstar’s speech at the at the Dr. MGR Educational and Research Institute in Chennai was candid and impactful. I sat glued to the television engrossed in his effortless pouring of thoughts and promises. His speech certainly came as a breath of fresh air in the midst of staid and soulless speeches made by politicians that we have heard so much in the past.
In his characteristic white shirt and dhoti he looked every inch the politician. The way he silenced the rumours and allegations against him was smart and sincere. He drew us into his life and shared interesting information about his wife and life. Never once did he shy away from accepting some of the difficult moments of his life, from the attack of nervous breakdown to being hospitalized he said it all.
Again the way he eulogized MGR was genuine and his candour in accepting that there can be only one MGR was commendable. But at the same time he subtly and forcefully accepted that he is completely capable of providing equally good governance.
Also he emphasized that there is certainly a vacuum in the TamilNadu politics and that he has entered the scene to fill this void. This statement was made with absolute clarity and confidence. Whether practiced and performed well I know not, but on that day when I heard Superstar speak it was a ray of hope emerging. Somewhere the hope for a better tomorrow devoid corruption and confusion seemed to be slowly dawning.
Is TamilNadu heading for better days? I really hope so. Hats off to Superstar!
