VR Mall: Very Very Hip

The fact that Chennai is getting an uber cool image is by now an established fact. Malls, parks, cafes, metro rails, uber taxis et al is reshaping the brand image of the city. If you are a fan of mall shopping and love to spend time walking the corridors of a mall eyeing all the glass windows then head to the VRMall at Anna Nagar, Chennai. Trust me, you will not be disappointed. It’s really huge and sprawling.

From the outside it gives a very cosy and small look and you wonder if it’s really as big as people say it is. Once inside there are different routes, that you can roam about and shop to your heart’s content. Incidentally, VR stands for Virtuous Retail and it is spread over 2 million sq. ft with 9 PVR screens and a host of dining options.

From the humble Madras Coffee House where you can grab a cup of coffee and cookies for Rs.50 INR to the classy dining restaurant Copper Chimney, you have it all. And Taco Bell, Starbucks, Mc. Donalds and Café Coffee Day are all vying for your attention. There are nice wooden benches strategically placed, so when your legs are crying out for rest you can just plonk yourself on them.

From a shopping angle, there is so much to choose from. Max, Westside, Meena Bazaar, Accerorize, Baggit, Bata, Biba, and the list is pretty much endless. And if you are the mall worker, The Hive at VR offers you aesthetically designed shared and private offices.

The colourful pyramid type of pillar right at the entrance can well become soon the identity of Anna Nagar, if not Chennai. Worth a visit I must say.
