I have no idea if this is a French word in the title, but maybe it has something to do with a global village that we live in. That apart, this film is about four beautiful and modern women (dressed in outfits that are simply unfathomable) and their struggles with love and life. Each one is at a different stage in their love life, one is married to a foreigner, second is on a desperate lookout for a groom, the third one is about to be married and the last one is divorced. And yes you guessed it right, they are all school friends reuniting in person for the wedding of Kalindi (Kareena Kapoor).
All the modern elements of life are thrown in, from talking openly about sex, homosexuality, masturbation, divorce, drinking, smoking the film does not bat an eyelid to show these aspects openly. In that sense, Veere Di Wedding is a laudable effort as it throws conservative caution to the winds. But what is missing is that the characters lack depth and a strong story to back it up. As a result, you enjoy the film but don’t get sucked into it and so Veere Di Wedding is not about impacting audience but just a casual breezy film about the love struggles of these young women.
Specially Kalindi walking in and out of her wedding, suddenly deciding to call it off and then again suddenly deciding to walk back in seems odd and does not give credit to the man. By the way, is her boyfriend such a puppet to accept a woman who cannot make up her mind? These are some of the loopholes that glare at you, but it needs to be mentioned that this film is a reflection of the life of a modern woman and will resonate very well with them.
All in all, an ideal Friday night film that will entertain you but will not engross you.
