Hello Friends,
Actor Vishal puts together a detective act in Thupparivalan, complete with cap, goggles, neck cloth, lean figure, quick, jerky movements, sudden confusing one liners and looking forever angry with the world. Well for those who are the diehard fans of Sherlock Holmes you will a great deal of similarity. And what with the titles paying credits to author Sir Conan Doyle and Sherlock Holmes. With an attendant Watson in actor Prasanna the story kicks off well. The moody detective Kaniyan Poongundran (Vishal) is choosy about picking up cases but agrees to take up the case of a missing dog as requested by a young boy.
The ambience of the house, with the detective going hither and thither trying decipher things give you a feel of a master Mysskin thriller in the making. However, somewhere it veers off into a gory action film with a great deal of blood and gore. The group of killers with Andrea, Bhagyaraj and Vinay seem vague and lacking purpose. Are they hired killers, terrorists, family seeking revenge or being blackmailed by the head honcho – Vinay is not clear.
It would have made more sense if the storyline could have been neatly scoped out with fewer characters and closing the loop smoothly on the sub plots. For instance, what happens to Andrea who finally gets hurt in the final confrontation is not clear. But that said, the cast has done a phenomenal job, each one playing their part aptly, specially Prasanna has done an exceptional job of an able attendant to Vishal.
