Hello Friends,
Do you want good food served in a simple but elegant place? You are hungry and could do with a sandwich but don’t want to spend too much, on waiting too! Then read on…
In the heart of the bustling TTK Road stretching from the Adyar Park (Park Sheraton) all the way up to the Shankara Hall (near Catherdal Road) is a nice little café – serving simple fare in a lovely ambience. That’s right, Spoobill Resto Café it is, named after a bird (which has a beak like a spoon) I am told by Sandra who runs the café with her brother Charlie Singh.

I have driven past this place several times, and have always eyed the well-lit, busy place that overlooks the hustle and bustle Alwarpet. So walked in recently on a hot afternoon and found the place with a few regulars (maybe) sipping juices.
Well folks, Spoonbill has been functioning for the last three years and has an amazing set of followers who walk in lazily and opt for their usual fare. Spoonbill’s USP is their streetfood from across the globe served right here in this joint.
Street Food from
- Wurst (Germany)
- Crepes (France)
- Buritos (Mexico)
- Momos & Noodles (China)
- Pav Bhaji (India)
- Döner and Falafel (Turkey)
- Fish and chips (England)
- Empanadas (Portugal)
- Piada (Italy)
- Tortilla Española & Patatas Bravas (Spain)
They serve all of this the authentic way, apparently. I could not taste all of the above but managed to sample some stuff to get an idea of the variety and quality.
It looks like a small place, but has a floating crowd and we hear that Sunday breakfast time and Saturday nights they run a full house. But then of course it’s a typical grab and go place, so you could do a takeaway as well.

Happy Hours: And the cute thing about Spoonbill is they have Happy Hours which means you could get a dish free for your bill amount. Sunday breakfast seems too good to resist, eggs made to order and choice with four slices of bread and butter and a drink to boot!
BT Discovery: There are so many Spoonbill events where kids come and cook and showcase their culinary expertise. This has garnered so many positive reviews on the café’s sense of complete inclusiveness. The cafe also celebrates Halloween and Christmas and the housie game is played every so often. Parents – Take your kids to Spoonbill if you want them doing something completely different this summer.
BT Bottom Line: We had a beautiful time eating out at Spoonbill and our recommendation for this café is STRONG!
