Chennai experienced sudden rains on Sunday evening of July 9th. It was a pleasant sight indeed, as sheets of rain poured relentlessly for about an hour and a half. Driving through the rain was very difficult with poor visibility. Metro rail work, storm water storage work, poor roads, gaping holes here and there, loose electric wires strewn across added to the woes of the city commuters. Many were caught prepared without raincoats and umbrellas so were forced to take shelter for quite a long time as the rain continued unabated. But the good news is that, the city has received 72 mm of rain in just an hour.
