Hello Friends,
Well, if it is a Rajini film it is beyond review and comments. However, one cannot but admire the agility of this 60 plus actor who has had a few health setbacks as well. But that said, as avid film goer you wish to see this man portray some lovely family themes and plots that bring out his acting potential. A la Amitabh Bachhan who has had a broad spectrum of roles such as Piku and Pink. I fail to understand why our directors are not engaging him in such simple, heartwarming roles.
When Karthik Subburaj collaborated with the Superstar, I was excited and expected to see a film that brought out the different acting layers of our own Rajinikanth. But Petta mildly disappointed me as it turned out to be a usual fare of revenge, action and melodrama. Karthik’s Iraivi was a stunner and having seen that film one would expect such finesses.
But then again this is Superstar, and there is a huge fan base to cater to so then I reconciled myself to watch another Superstar film and not a Mullum Malarum type of Rajini the actor film. This acknowledged, I began to enjoy the superstar starting off as a hostel warden with an ulterior motive. The romantic scenes between Simran and Rajini are not much, but what we get to see is very nice indeed. Simran as the Pranic healer is sensational. Trisha has not much to do, but understandably being part of a Rajini project is more important than what role one has to play.
Sasikumar and others form the flashback sequences. And Nawazudin Siddiqui as Singaar Singh lacks punch and of course we have our Vijay Sethupathi as Jithu.
If you can remove any expectations, then this could turn out to be a great watch.
