The Palladium Mall in the Phoenix Mall building is the latest entrant to the list of malls in Chennai. Swanky and sophisticated it had a splash launch a fortnight back. Impressed by all the media attention it received I headed out to Palladium last Sunday and what I saw was impressive, yes, but it still needs to have more shops to be buzzing with activity.
Polished marble floors, an attractive entrance, uniformed security personnel welcome you but after that inside there are only few big brands dotting the corridors. Understandably the action is yet to begin and just a few curious onlookers amble about here and there aimlessly, and I don’t recall seeing a food court.
Maybe my expectations were high, and I did expect to see a fully functional mall with cafes, coffee shops and clothing stores in full swing. It is fairly large and is bound to be the talk of the town in a short while from now as it is in the prominent Velacherry Main Road attracting people from after Saidapet, Guindy, Pallikaranai and thereafter. But for now it is nascent and getting ready for its coming of age.
