Nadigayar Thilagam: Captivating Lifestory of Actor Savithri

Hello Friends,

Surprisingly there has not been much pre-movie hype and marketing regarding the release of the film – Nadigayar Thilagam which captures the rise and fall of the beautiful and versatile yesteryear actor Savithri. For the uninitiated, Savithri was a legend who commanded a screen presence equal to the heroes of her times. An actor unparalleled, she was known for her expressions and sheer acting talent. She if not excelled, matched the performance of Nadigar Thilagam Sivaji Ganesan himself.

Such was her acting prowess, but sadly though her personal life was ridden with complications and she was never at peace. Unrequited love, financial loss, drugs, and alcohol chased her and finally leading to coma stage and death.

Well, these are the aspects of her life that have been highlighted in the recently released biopic on her. Kudos to Nag Ashwin and team for the realistic portrayal which has been well anchored by Keerthi Suresh, Dulquer Salman, Samantha Akkineni, Naga Chaithanya, Bhanupriya, Prakash Raj and a host of others who has etched out neat performances.

Special mention has to be made about Keerthi Suresh who progresses from – an effervescent young girl with movie dreams to a woman torn between love and prudence to a megastar with an enormous fan following who finally falls a prey to vices and bad company and loses everything that she has painstakingly built.

Of Dulquer you naturally expect him to steal the show given his abundant talent but he puts in a smart and sober performance. Happily playing second fiddle to Keerthi and allowing this Nadigayar Thilagam to steal the thunder. Hats off to him! And yes, you hear the entire life story through journalist Samantha who unravels Savithri’s life story after the actor falls into a coma.

All in all, it is a commendable effort and the film certainly keeps you engrossed.
