Mersal: Has All The Right Ingredients

Hello Friends,

A fit hero essaying triple role, exotic locations, AR Rahman musical, three dazzling heroines who emote well and look sensational, colours, emotions, sleek fight sequences, political overtones and punch lines on current affairs. All this, and much more make Vijay’s Mersal a delight to watch, indeed. It is a typical Diwali entertainer with all the above ingredients coming together neatly packaged to keep the viewer entertained sufficiently.

As a magician, as a doctor and a village chieftan he toggles between roles smartly. To each character he lends a particular style and mood and is subtly able to show the differences between a doctor and magician.  Vijay looks fitter, and smart with his boyish Sachin charm intact. Particularly the scenes where he is playing cricket with the boys and gets ordered around by Samantha he almost looks like a high school boy. While the first half is taken up by the duo doctor and magician Vijay the second half gets the father Vijay in action. This is where the story unfolds as to how the village chieftan and his wife Aishwarya (Nithya Menen) get duped by Daniel Arockiaraj (SJ Suryah). Incidentally SJ Surya seems to be every director’s love interest now, as you find him as the lethal villain in every film sharing sufficient screen space with the hero.

All in all it’s a hotch potch of several different hit films from the past, but with intelligent casting, contemporary topics and mass hero in action it is not a film that you can ignore. Hats off to Atlee and team!
