Kamakshi Amman Temple: On a Friday Evening

Hello Friends,

The city of Kanchipuram is full of temples that possess beautiful architecture and stone carvings. Steeped in tradition, it is a delight to visit these temples. If the Madurai is famous for the Meenakshi Amman temple, Kanchi for Goddess Visalakshi, Goddess Akilandeshwari in Trichy, Kanchipuram is equally famous for the Kamakshi Amman Temple.

On a slightly sultry summer evening in April, we visited the temple and was pleasantly surprised to see the deity being taken on a procession. It was a spectacular sight, as the richly decorated and brightly lit temple car went around carrying an small and elegant who looked resplendent yellow silk and bedecked with jewels. The entire ambience of the temple looked lovely, as the evening light was fading the bright lights of the temple shone, the clinging of bells, the loud chanting of mantras, the deity looking pristine and pure.
