Okay, so we all know that the lady superstar is on a roll. Yes, actor Nayanthara has evolved as an actor and has come a long way in the last decade. It is amazing to see this actor’s journey from a simple, chubby heroine doing very small roles to ruling the roost in mainstream cinema. If Manirathnam’s Chekka Chivandha Vanam is occupying box office, so is Nayanthara’s Imaikka Nodigal. Is that not a great accomplishment for this actor? Hats off to her staying power and selection of scripts and cast. Good show Nayanthara!
That said, Imaikka Nodigal, has been earning great reviews and is touted be a high-class suspense thriller. It has an interesting cast, what with Anurag Kashyap, Vijay Sethupathi, Atharva and Nayanthara playing pivotal roles in the film. And yes, no Tamil film these days misses a chance to drag Vijay Sethupathi into the cast.
However, if you zero in on the story of Imaikka Nodigal, it is a tad confusing. So many killings, much revenge, and vendetta, so in the process you lose handle on the storyline. Top class performances by everyone, whoever thought of importing Anurag Kashyap has to be credited. Smart move! He has done a splendid job as the police officer turned psychopath killer. And Atharva has the young man who has been framed and is desperate to find the truth is brilliant as well. It would be good to see the young actor get meaty roles in the future.
What could have been a slick, suspense film meanders into unnecessary detailed sub love plots. And what with the kid talking nineteen to the dozen, and most often using adult language. But Nayanthara steers the film well and she carries Imaikka Nodigal well on her slender shoulders.
