Hello Friends,
Ace director Mani Ratnam known for his sophisticated filmmaking, gripping stories, powerful women characters has done it again with Chekka Chivantha Vaanam (CCV). If you don’t mind a bit of bloodshed, lots of fighting and action then you are in for a treat.
It’s a casting bonanza, so we have the handsome hunk Arvind Swamy, well-built and lethal looking Arun Vijay, STR or dearly known as Simbu joining them who would do well in watching his weight. Bringing them all together is the patriarch Prakash Raj and Vijay Sethupathi as the earnest police officer wearing a casual façade throughout are all amazing and live their characters. It is obvious that each of them knows what a windfall it is to be cast in a Mani Ratnam film and so they have made the most of the same.
On the ladies side, there is Jayasudha looking mature and sober, Jyothika looking her best who unabashedly loves her husband in spite of him cavorting with another woman. That is pretty strange; especially the scene where there is a confrontation between the two women is innocuous and watered down. It almost seems like two good friends meeting up for coffee. Which wife will walk into the house of another woman who has an affair with her husband and leaves without any reaction. Aishwarya Rajesh as the SriLankan woman arrested for no fault of hers has put in a decent act, but she just has a few scenes to make an appearance. Likewise for Aditi Hydari as the other woman.
It’s a story of everybody kills everybody, nobody is spared even if it is their own family. This is a clear reflection of the times we live in where familial ties are sidelined for the sake of power and money.
