Hello Friends,
On the one end there is sufficient media hype for a rocket launch and on the other end a village struggles for drinking water. This is the opening sequence and you immediately get into the story and know what to expect. Though the intentions are stated upfront and you know, dirty politics, red tapism, innocent villagers are all about to follow. But in spite of this the sudden falling of the young 4 year old Dhanshika in an open well is pathetic.
All the events that unfold right after the young girl’s disappearance are so real and relatable. The delayed arrival of the fire services, unwilling and lethargic police force, hysterical parents, livid villagers, red tape, politician games and Nayanthara as the helpless IAS officer Madhivadhani caught in the centre of all this is is at her peak performance.
What is good about this film is that, when you see a smart collector walk into the village you almost expect her to do some wonders, bark some orders and suddenly the girl is saved. This is what heros and heroines do in most of the films, but no Aramm the collector Nayanthara is as helpless as any one of us. And the fact that in spite of her power she is not able to do much is the USP of the film. Gone are Nayanthara’s glamorous oufits and makeup, in a simple cotton sari (not even a starched one) she dazzles. Hats off to her for signing up for such intelligent films.
All in all, kudos to the team that worked up the courage to bring out such a film that is devoid of all tamil cinema expectations.
