Frankly, these days there are multiple shopping options, malls, boutiques, home based shops and more – but how many actually are cost effective and are of good quality? OK, so we have been used to Anokhi, Fab India, Shilpi and Kalpastree, and just when I thought the options are many but still limited for choosy women buyers, here comes a lovely store!
Yes, Balajis for Ladies wear bang in the middle of Pondy Bazaar has an amazing collection of salwar material and readymade suits. It’s a great shop really, very small and simple, with stacks and huge piles of good quality cotton stuff. I went in with a particular requirement that was unmet by other leading stores and was pleasantly surprised to pick up exactly what I had in mind. Their modest store appearance belies their stunning collection, and the helpful salesgirls are a delight indeed.
Later I learnt from the helpful gentleman behind the counter (obviously the owner) that the store has been functioning for the last 45 years at Pondy Bazaar. And they are proud of two aspects – quality and affordability. The sales girl beamingly tells me that they have salwar material starting from Rs.300.
