Hello Friends,
Yet another temple that is a must visit pilgrim spot, if you are in Madurai is Pillayarpatti. The famous Karpaga Vinayakar temple is the main attraction in Pillayarpatti that is located in Thirpatthur in the Sivaganga district. It is a nice quiet temple without too much of a crowd, or maybe the day and time we chose seemed to suit us. Again, this is about an hours’ journey from Madurai with a distance of about 75 kilometers roughly to cover.
Right as one enters, a huge holy tank welcomes us very clean and well maintained. It is indeed a beautiful and pleasant sight and you tend to stop by and enjoy the lovely view. And then the way to the inner sanctum and sanctorum is spacious with a small entrance leading into the inside of the temple.
The temple is ancient and dates back to 1091 and 1238. The inner sanctum is a cave like structure that houses a six feet Lord Ganesha idol that is rock cut. Oil lamps light up the interiors and the gold plated idol of Lord Ganesha looks radiant and spectacular. And we gather that another unique aspect of the Lord Ganesha idol is that he is seen with two hands and a trunk curled towards his right hand.
