Dolls of Japan: Petite and Perfunctory

Dolls of Japan: Petite and Perfunctory

Hello Friends,

The Dolls of Japan is an exhibition of happening at the Lalit Kala Academy on Greames Road. After having had an overdose of Indian handicrafts and handlooms in the past few months, something out of India came as a breath of fresh air. Japanese food is gaining traction in the city and so why not their dolls as well.

Expecting to see a huge crowd and a vast display of dolls, I was mildly surprised to see an eclectic mix of dolls, in pleasant colours and very miniature like. I was instantly reminded of their Ikebana which is also small and tidy flower arrangement.  This Dolls of Japan is a spartan exhibition that has a select set of dolls in a very orderly arrangement. If you are the type that has an eye for global culture and would like to know a bit more of Japan, this is the place. However, if you are expecting a riot of vibrant colours the Indian style then there are chances of getting disappointed.
